Abundance, Full and Ever Flowing

One of my favorite reads last year was Sarah Buckley's "Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering". It totally brought together so many bits and pieces that I have learned over this 12 year journey of being pregnant five times, birthing four times, and mothering our four growing sweet peas.

This quote is one of my favorites, and encompasses so much of what I love about being a mother and the joy go being able to breastfeed our children.

Breastmilk is the ultimate superfood.  It has the potential to change in composition from one feeding to the next.  Each mother makes just what her baby needs for that time of day, for that feeding.  As described by Dr. Katie Hinde, it is more unique than a fingerprint, more unique than a snowflake.

Whether you fed your baby drops, ounces, or if you continue to breastfeed today: way to go, mama!! You gave, or are giving, your baby something that no one else could - that is simply amazing.

Wordless Wednesday: Men In Our Lives

Here are some images sent in for our Wordless Wednesday contest this month...in honor of Father's Day, we asked for submissions of Sweet Peas with the important men in their lives.  These images show all the many ways that Sweet Peas share love and spend time with the men that love them.

Do you have a favorite Sweet Pea moment with their favorite guy?

Wordless Wednesday: The REAL American Idols

In honor of Armed Forces Day which was observed on May 17th, we wanted to feature the folks who serve or have served in our nation’s military. These images capture family time for the Real American Idols: people willing to put their live on the line to protect our Constitution and our freedoms, and the spouses and children who love them and live life without them while they are out on duty.  Check out more military family photos over onSweet Pea Families.

Wordless Wednesday: Spring Fever

So this is a day late for a beautiful reason…I got called away from my computer to spend time with our children. Then, as I was sitting down to post last night…I was called away to support a family for their daughter’s birth – WOW! Mama was a rock star! Welcome to the last of our Winter SPB babies!

So, without further ado, here are this week’s Wordless Wednesday images:

May 14th: Spring Fever
What are you and your Sweet Pea doing to enjoy this beautiful weather? Show us your favorite places to be with your favorite people.

Wordless Wednesday: May the Force by with you

THEME: How do you rise to the challenge of parenting? Or maybe you have pictures of your children in Star Wars gear? Share your best images that fit this caption in honor of Star Wars Day on May 4th.

Thank you for sharing your images with us - they are adorable Sweet Peas (and friends <3)

Wordless Wednesday: Babywearing

#CAM2014 Tip: This parenting practice can be especially beneficial to cesarean families to encourage bonding while you heal from your birth and revel in the miracle of life.

How do you wear your Sweet Pea?

Wordless Wednesday: Breastfeeding

This week's theme for Wordless Wednesday was breastfeeding in the immediate postpartum period.  Whether you birthed vaginally or via cesarean, it is possible for mothers to breastfeed.

Our first series is of a mama feeding in the recovery room after a cesarean, and a day later, still swollen from the drugs used for the induction and the cesarean.  She went on to have a great breastfeeding relationship with this Sweet Pea, and was our student for her VBAC baby in 2013.

The second set of pictures are from our births.

Wordless Wednesday: Lucky Charms

This blog post is a little late...with Spring cleaning, a treasured guest, and recovery from all the activity, here it is - finally!!

I set this theme with the idea of blending St. Patrick's Day with breastfeeding.  What do we need if we have a twiddler...a Lucky Charm to keep the fingers busy instead of driving you up a wall!!

If you haven't had a twiddler, consider yourself blessed!  I didn't have one until Otter came along.  She likes to keep her free hand occupied by twiddling.
