Today is THE day...TheRally to Improve Birth
is happening across the country...did it make the news in your town? I know it did in the Phoenix area, and I just saw that CNN was sending a crew down to the LA rally. Yeah for Informed Births!!
Since we are out of town and I can't attend our Phoenix Rally in person, I am thrilled to be able to participate via thisVirtual Rally
Here are some pictures from our personal family album from Otter's homebirth. I am sharing them with you today to show solidarity with the families who are out under the elements to Rally for Change in the maternity system.
I wrote about this back movement in June; if you missed itHERE
(links to contribute and the Phoenix Rally in that post)
This is what motivates these mamas:
“This movement isn’t about natural birth vs. medicated birth.
It’s not about hospital birth vs. home birth or birth center birth.
It’s about women being capable of making safer, more informed decisions about their care and that of their babies, when they are given full and accurate information about their care options, including the potential harms, benefits, and alternatives.
Although World Breastfeeding Week: Close to Mothers has come to a conclusion, we continue with Breastfeeding Awareness Month in the USA. We will be bringing back our "In Their Own Words" for the rest of the month.
This series shares chronicles from students and readers about their own breastfeeding journeys. Each mother has a unique story, one that I trust will empower you if you are learning about breastfeeding, and inspire you if you are in the trenches, struggling as you learn to breastfeed with your Sweet Pea.
Did you know that there is a national organization advocating
evidence-based care and humanity in childbirth?
I first became aware of ImprovingBirth.org when they held their first rally
last year. In order to bring awareness
to the maternity health care crisis in our country, the organizers chose the
date of Labor Day for the national event.
This year, they are truly nation-wide – there is at least one rally planned in all
50 states, and as of today, it looks like they are up to eight international locations.
