Babywearing

Birth News: December 12, 2013

A bigger selection of topics today...check out the news if you are "trying" to get pregnant, and more motivation to keep your pregnancy healthy, low-risk and as stress-free as possible.  Also, new study from ACOG that shows that there may be risks with the use of Pitocin.

Happy Thursday to all of you!

P.S. I also did an early morning posting of ourWordless Wednesdayfrom yesterday...the day got away from me!  Enjoy a peek into our home as we celebrate the season.

Wordless Wednesday: Babywearing Dudes

Who says babywearing is just for mommies?  Our Wordless Wednesday this week features babywearing dads!  These are some fan shares - thank you for sending them in!

Do you know any babywearing dudes?  What kind of carrier do they use?

Babywearing Week 2013

Have you found a carrier that lets you enjoy wearing your baby??  There were so many amazing carriers on display at MommyCon LA yesterday...wow!!  There is truly a carrier for every desire out there.

We will be bringing you a recap of MommyCon LA tomorrow on Sweet Pea Families - make sure you click over there tomorrow for a "virtual" Mommy-Con experience.  In the meantime, feel free to find @sweetpeabirths on Twitter or Instagram for our feed straight from the event yesterday - it was a great day!

Healthy Happy Expo

Sweet Pea Births is so excited to announce that we are sponsoring The Nursing Lounge at the upcoming Healthy Happy Baby Expo!  Organizer Kim Swayman, owner of Healthy Baby, Happy Earth in Glendale, sat down with us for a minute. She tells us more about this exciting, one-day event coming up on Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 10 am to 5 pm at the Westgate Renaissance Hotel.

What is the Healthy Happy Baby Expo?
It is a one-day event that brings together area professionals to assist soon-to-be or new parents in discovering resources and information on a variety of topics in caring for their families.

WW: Little of this, Little of That

We have been collecting photos of the different choices we make that support breastfeeding: babywearing, co-sleeping, and daddy bonding, as well as breastfeeding pictures.  Here is an assortment of pictures that didn't make it into their respective weeks - enjoy!

An Inside Look: Total Momma + Family Care

Welcome to today's guest blogger, Koren Michelle.  She is the founder of Total Momma + Family Care, providing postpartum care, family fitness and nutrition classes, and support for mamas at all stages of their parenting journey.

When I had my son in 2010, I didn’t know anyone with kids.  All of our family is back in Ohio.  I was on my own.  However, I knew I wanted a homebirth.  I was determined to succeed with breastfeeding, cloth diapering, and babywearing.  While I did succeed with all of these things, that first year was TOUGH.

The Choice to Babywear

This week (October 8-14, 2012) has been declared International Babywearing Week by Babywearing International.  I am so happy that there is an organized group “whose mission is to promote babywearing as a universally accepted practice, with benefits for both child and caregiver, through education and support.”

Ashley Montagu was an anthropologist who promoted deliberate maternal care in his article, “Mother’s Touch”, published in the April 1981 issue of Science Digest.

The Baby Stuff

There are “gear” lists available at a moment’s notice.  Gone are the days of buying a pregnancy journal or planner…hello, online baby communities.  I think it’s easy to get trapped in the “stuff” you can buy for your baby.  And seriously, a lot of it is so cute!!  I think I want one of everything because all of the patterns are so fun!

So what do you really need for your baby in the first few weeks?  What if you were on a tight budget and you had to make the hard choices?

In Their Own Words: Shara

This post was written as part of Sweet Pea Birth’s "In Their Own Words" series. For more info on the ITOW or if you want to participate, contact Krystyna Bowman: krystyna{at} sweetpeabirths {dot} com. Today's post is about breastfeeding after a cesarean.  The breastfeeding ITOW series runs through the month of August.

Shara Cohen-Sandhu is fun-loving, red-headed mama to two lovely girls and wife to one busy Coach.  She is an advocate of breastfeeding, co-sleeping and attachment parenting, and she is active in the Phoenix-area ICAN chapter.
