Welcome to this month's installment of "Meet the Doula". This month I have the pleasure of introducing you to one of the Valley's postpartum doulas, Ashley Anders. I had the pleasure of meeting Ashley at an ICAN meeting last year, and I am happy to say we have kept in touch. She is honored to serve her families, and as such, Ashley is dedicated to furthering her own education so that she can better serve her clients. I hope you enjoy our feature with our October 2016 doula: Ashley!
A question that came up in our Friday night class was, "How do we know if our doctor supports natural birth?"
Here are some questions to ask to find out:
Did you know that there are six birth centers to choose from if you are a birthing family in the metro-Phoenix area in Arizona? Several of them offer Bradley Method classes on their calendar. We will be offering a series at Willow Midwife Center for Birth and Midwifery that starts in October. Pleasecontact usif you would like to enroll.
Here is a quick run-down of the options, listed in alphabetical order.

Oh how I love going to La Leche League meetings. It is a wealth of information from the brain trust of trained leaders and experienced mothers. As my own days as a breastfeeding mother are winding down, I am glad I still get to go to meetings in support of our students.
In the course of conversation, I realized that I wanted to write about postpartum again today. I feel like "postpartum" needs a new name.
"Postpartum" alone describes the physical fact of a woman who is no longer pregnant.
We get this question a lot, and it came up again when we taught class on Friday evening. The most common answer uses the acronym "5-1-1".

Q: Is taking a Vitamin C pill as good as eating food rich in Vitamin C?
A: If that is the best you can do, then do it. Optimally, your body is looking for "bioavailable" vitamins and minerals...
During pregnancy, we encourage our students to get a daily serving of Vitamin C and five servings of Vitamin A every week.

This month I would like to introduce you to Ashley Wain.
She supported one of our Spring 2016 clients and they gave her rave reviews!
When was the first time you heard the word, “doula”?
I was working at the Ritz Carlton and our Chef was telling me how his wife was training to be a Doula and Placenta Encapsulator. I was intrigued and had to learn more about it. He put me in touch with his wife and I attended a baby event where she was a vendor.
did you decide that becoming a doula was part of your journey?
