Breastfeeding: "Let's Make it Work!" Photo by Erin Rudd Photography This was the only picture I *really* wanted to be in when we did the photo shoot at Modern Mommy. It was such an honor to sit with all these women who have made the choice to breastfeed. Some are mamas who work in/out of the home, and some are SAHM. From Left-Right, the Sweet Peas are 6 weeks old, 8 months old, 10 months old, 2 years old, 3 years old, and 3.5 years old. Those of us with toddlers aren't nursing as often as the younger babies in the group. However, it goes to show that when nursing is consistent, the body continues to create the supply as per the needs of the child. This World Breastfeeding Work we are focusing on making breastfeeding relationships work in/in spite of the workplace. Today, I'm taking a variation on theme of "Let's Make It Work", to include making breastfeeding work for children of all ages...as demonstrated by the wide range of MotherBabys represented in this image. The one thing that strikes me about this image is how every single one of us is looking down at our nursling. Is this something instinctive about the breastfeeding relationship? As we all continue to gaze down, and in the process, learn more about our Sweet Pea. Join me tomorrow as we continue to explore the actual theme of this week, and examine the legal structure around workplace accomodation for lactating mothers. |
